GAR is a non-profit organization that was created in response to the decisive disaster of Hurricane Katrina. It is our hope that this website will inspire and educate those who know that something needs to be done, but don’t know how to do it. To empower people to act on there own accord and not wait for other bureaucratic agencies to get involved. To teach independents that if we band together and save one pet at a time, we can save the hearts of many.

"GAR FIRST INTERNATIONAL MISSION A HUGE SUCCESS"
Azerbaijan, February 22,
Guerrilla Animal Rescue embarked on its first international responsive training mission last September
Allied with United Nations representative Kristine Herman, as well as veterinarians from Ireland, GAR educated and trained local vets of Baku and national vets of Azerbaijan how to sanitarily prep and spay felines, in addition to demonstrating a host of other veterinary procedures.
Shockingly, spaying and neutering techniques throughout much of the world are antiquated and extremely risky. Coupled with poor sanitary conditions, it is nearly impossible for healthy recoveries of the animals, and often times leads to their untimely death. Today, modern veterinary practice requires a simple out-patient procedure and the animals are able to return to their normal activities in one day with little risk involved.
Melanie Good, GAR founder and principal states, "When I found out that Azerbaijan, a country highly advanced in business and actively progressive in culture and politics was totally over run with domestic pets, it presented the perfect opportunity for GAR to get involved."

"GAR Gears Up for Trip to Azerbaijan "
August 14, 2006
There are many places in the world with animal overpopulation problems, but none as bad as what GAR has recently discovered in Azerbaijan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azerbaijan).
Sick, scared, hungry and homeless, thousands of animals hopelessly roam the streets of Baku. The citizens of the country's capital are not heartless, just uneducated. The spaying and neutering techniques currently in place border on barbaric. A long incision is made improperly from the neck all the way to the tail, which takes place in poor sanitary conditions resulting in post-operative complications, often leading to death - not to mention causing much pain and suffering to the animals.
